Derek received a letter in the mail from his Grandma and Grandpa Dodson. They sent him $100 for his trip!! So exciting! Thank you So very much Scott and Karen. Derek was VERY excited!
That puts Derek at $420 raised!! THANK YOU EVERYONE!


I just got a message from our amazing friends Mike and Christina and they want to give Derek $150 for his trip!!!!! Derek was so shocked and excited!That puts him at $570 raised!!!!! Derek has enough to make his first payment! THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH!

It takes a lot to get this kid speechless and Derek was moved beyond words. Everyone's generosity has blown us all away! Thank you!

Derek has a couple job set up. one he will be hauling dirt for a friend from Mikes work and another he will help cleaning houses! So excited and so incredibly proud of him!

Derek's Letter

Dear friends and family,

Hi this is Derek Dodson.  I have been given an awesome opportunity through my school to go on an educational field trip with Explore America for 8 days to the east coast. Over spring break we will be visiting 4 different states, Boston, Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC, where we will be seeing and exploring many historical sights. This is very exciting to me because I love History. I need to raise $2,800 to be able to go on this trip of a life time.

Here are some of the things that we will be doing on the trip;

BOSTON

Walking tour through Boston -Newbury street, Public garden, Boston common, Cheers, Boston tea party ships and museum, Dinner at Quincy market, Guided tour Cambridge, Paul Reveres House, USS Constitution, old north church, Bunker hill, freedom trail, Harvard square, Tour of Lexington, Concord Lexington battle green, old north bridge, Authors Row, and orchards house.

NEW YORK CITY

Guided tour of midtown Manhattan, Fifth avenue, Rockefeller center, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Bryant Park, Central Park, Empire State building by night, Statue of liberty, Ellis Island, 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Time square, and a Broadway show

PHILADELPHIA

Walking tour of Philadelphia independence national historical, congress Hall Carpenters Hall, Independence hall, and the Liberty bell center

WASHINGTON DC

Arlington National Cemetery, changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier, Kennedy gravesites, Marine Corps war memorial, Mount Vernon mansion and museum, George Washington’s tomb, White house WW2 memorial, Washington monument, US Capitol tour, sit in on congress and supreme court, library of congress, Smithsonian Museums, Night tour of Washington DC, Lincoln memorial, Vietnam Memorial, FDR memorial, Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Jefferson Memorial and The National Archives

I am excited about this trip and would love to be able to go. I have raised a small amount myself and would greatly appreciate any help you can give. I am motivated and am willing to work. I am also going to start a blog to keep you all updated on my progress on raising money, then I will post pictures to the blog each day while on the trip.
